Botox is a drug made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum called botulinum toxin. It is used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles.
Botox pharmacologically blocks conduction in the nerve-muscle junction, thereby reducing the contraction of the mimic muscles that cause the wrinkles, distorting the mechanism of wrinkle formation. Botox is Ministry of Health and FDA – approved drug that has been applied safely for many years in migraine – tension type headache, strabismus, hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating), spasticity and tic treatment besides wrinkle treatment.
Botox effect Starts 48-72 hours after injection. The maximum effect occurs after 7-10 days. The bruising, temporary headache (which lasts for a few days), are rare conditions that can be seen. Familial susceptibility to pills, Myasthenia gravis, Eaton Lambert syndrome, Motor neuron disease, Aminoglycoside antibiotic therapy, Pregnancy or breastfeeding Botulinum should not be administered during this period. (Studies proving the reliability in these conditions have not been done yet).
