One of the methods that can be used to increase volume and fullness in various parts of the body such as face, hips is fat injections. Cheeks, forehead, cheek-lip line, lips, chin, hips and crumpled areas are examples of places where this practice can be made.

The fat is taken from the patient’s body itself is passed through a special treatments such as washing and draining to a certain concentration and then given to the area to be injected with the aid of thin canullas. If other surgical procedures are performed at the same time, the tissues to be obtained by these operations can also be injected into the fat tissue. As the fat is obtained from patient’s itself, an undesirable reaction is not expected. In addition, since the injection is made from very small points, there is no expectation of any trace at the injection site.

When choosing the region where fat is to be taken, it is generally preferred to use regions where the body is much fatty.  These regions are mostly abdomen, waist and hip.

The tissue enlargement to be obtained by fat injection is limited. The expectations must be realistic for this reason. If excessive growth is desired, the use of permanent implants should be preferred.

Further injections may be required after a while because some of the injected fat are absorbed and destroyed by the body. The field of application, the quantity given, the status of the tissues are evaluated to discuss the effectiveness of this process and the results that can be achieved. Resorbtion rate can range from 30-70%. This amount varies depending on the location and whether the injected region is moving or immobile. Compared to the rate of absorption in stationary areas such as the forehead and jaw, the rate of retention and absorption in moving areas such as the mouth periphery is different.

The operation  usually takes one hour. It can be done under local/general anesthesia in full-fledged hospitals. Patients discharge on the same day or stay overnight in the hospital. After a few days the patient may return to their daily life.  Edema and bruisings can be seen at the donour and the recipient sites. This problem takes about 1-2 weeks.
